Will you ask me about my childhood?  Only if you wish to discuss it. If whilst we are working together your childhood comes up then we will explore this if you are comfortable doing so.  You are in the driving seat so you dictate what we discuss as they are your sessions.

How many sessions will I need to feel better? It is your decision, we can discuss this based on your needs.  Some people need a course of sessions others need ongoing support.  You can choose to come weekly (recommended at the beginning) but this may become fortnightly if appropriate for you.  

 

Will you be able to advise me what to do for the best?  No, is the short answer.  I am a person centred counsellor which means I will support you to make the right decisions for you.  I will listen and give you a space to explore your thoughts.  You are the expert on you! My aim is to support you in a safe, secure and empathetic space to move forward.

How do I know what I tell you will be confidential?  Confidentiality is the foundation of any relationship and is an integral part of our counselling sessions. I am a member of the BACP and I follow their ethical framework which states that all information I gather in the course of my work with you will remain confidential. It would go against everything I believe in to break your confidence.  (There are exceptions and these will be discussed)
